More from the LNC Quote Shop

Andrew Klavan-

...... the movies have made themselves increasingly irrelevant. In one film after another, we are told that the world in front of our eyes isn’t really there, that instead the world is really as the left imagines it. In the world as it is, a religion of violent intolerance has risen up against the freest, most moral civilization ever established on earth. In the movies, we’re the bad guys and Islamists are the persecuted ones. In the world as it is, an American president sacrificed his popularity to free 30 million people from a crushing tyranny of government sponsored rape, torture and murder. In the movies, that president is a degraded fool and a lowlife. In the world we see, nearly a million poor children die of malaria every year because environmentalists engineered a ban on DDT. In the movie world, environmentalists are always our saviors, the corporations that make insecticides always evil.

The only one insulted by the cartoon is the crazed chimpanzee! Even a crazy chimpanzee could not have made such a “stimulus” package. Those who see racism in this, like Al Sharpton, show that they are the ones who immediately think of President Obama as a chump.

Somebody arrest someone! -or Is India a free country anymore?

Hard to call ours a free country when things like this happen with a depressing regularity-
Editor arrested for 'outraging Muslims'

------------------------------
The editor and publisher of a major Indian newspaper have been arrested for "hurting the religious feelings" of Muslims after they reprinted an article from The Independent. Ravindra Kumar and Anand Sinha, the editor and publisher of the Kolkata-based English daily The Statesman, appeared in court yesterday charged under section 295A of the Indian Penal Code which forbids "deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings".

Sections of central Kolkata have been paralysed by protests for much of the past week after The Statesman republished an article by The Independent's columnist Johann Hari. Titled "Why should I respect oppressive religions?", the piece was originally printed in The Independent on 28 January. In it, Hari said he believed the right to criticise any religion was being eroded around the world.

The Statesman, a highly respected liberal English-language daily, reprinted the article on 5 February, causing a major backlash among a small group of Muslims who felt that the piece slighted the Prophet Mohamed and insulted their religion. Peaceful protests were held outside The Statesman's offices at the weekend but by Monday, demonstrations had turned violent. Angry crowds began blocking roads, attacking police and calling for the arrest of the article's author and the newspaper's publisher and editor. On Monday and Tuesday police used baton charges to try to disperse crowds and more than 70 protesters were arrested.

I am deeply offended by what has been done to my country by our political looter class and the religious fundamentalists, both feeding off each other.

Did you hear - I am offended! My sensibilities are offended! My deepest convictions have been disrespected!

Therefore I demand that someone be arrested immediately!

Or does that require violent mob on the streets -peaceful people(freedom loving liberals like myself and I suppose millions others) can have their sensibilities offended all day long without a peep from our rulers.

Some sensibilities, it is obvious, are more equal than others.

Update - there is an excellent post on this at dancewithshadows

There is a reason why this site - dancewithshadows - does not publish very many articles about religion. Any religion. Because if I do that, I am left with two options. Get thrashed by some group, or get thrown behind bars. And as this is a simple news and features site, and we do not make enough money to afford a lawyer to get me out, it is a losing battle which would just see me spending weeks or months taking a crap in a dirty crapper while my cell-mates watch.

In a way, it is hilarious that the protests by Muslim groups in Kolkata actually prove the point Johann Hari made - that you can’t criticise religions now, and freedom to do so have been eroded.

Why isn't Obama a racist?

Apropos that 'racist' cartoon faux-controversy, there are deep issues of character involved that have been completely swept under the carpet by our hyper-partisan media.
Imagine a white politician who belonged to an organisation with the following tenets-
1. Commitment to the White Community
2. Commitment to the White Family
3. Adherence to the White Work Ethic
4. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the White Community.
5. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting White Institutions
6. Pledge allegiance to all White leadership who espouse and embrace the White Value System
7. Personal commitment to embracement of the White Value System.

That white man would be branded a racist and hounded out of political life.
Would you support a President who went to a church like that? Just change the word from white to black and you have the tenets of Obama's former church. If President Bush was a member of a church like this, he would be called a racist. Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton would have been marching outside. This kind of church is a racist church... A church can't have a value system based on race. The churches value system has to be based on biblical mandate. It does not matter if itʼs a white church or a black church it's still wrong. Anyone from either race that attends a church like this would never get my vote.

Ask yourself honestly -would you consider that hypothetical white person a racist?
If so then why isn't Obama a racist?
Or, in the age of O, is that an illegitimate question?
No dissent allowed?

Back to that cartoon - The New York Post has issued a sort of apology. While it is sad to see that the newspaper did not show more resolution in face of this racist onslaught(different treatment of white and black presidents), this part stands out-
However, there are some in the media and in public life who have had differences with The Post in the past - and they see the incident as an opportunity for payback.

To them, no apology is due.

Sometimes a cartoon is just a cartoon - even as the opportunists seek to make it something else.

Now awaiting an apology and an explanation from Obama for being part of a racist church for 20 years.Waiting for that outrage from media poodles.Waiting....

U.S. President -chimp no more?

The Obama police state
The happy days for cartoonists showing the US president
as a chimp are over. It will not be tolerated in the Obama age.

To those of us on the non-leftist side of the barricade it has been obvious for decades that one of the most potent weapons in the leftist arsenal is their readiness to shoot the charge of 'racism' at the drop of a hat. They have used it to effectively to oppose policies and people they don't like and to defend their own, to induce guilt on a civilizational scale and weaken the moral fabric of a whole way of life.

If we didn't live in an nightmarish Orwellian world, it would be obvious to all that the modern day racism is now an official platform of the left -it is the leftists who clamor for race based quotas in admissions, jobs and contracts and it is the 'rightists' (i.e. libertarians like myself) who would like to live in an absolutely color blind world.

Thus we have another round of grapeshot from the left's favorite weapon. We are told that this cartoon, which is actually quiet intelligent and amusing, is racist-

New York Post Chimp Cartoon Sean Delonas

It allegedly portrays Obama as a chimpanzee, something which is denied by the artist. But what if it were? Why would portraying Obama as a monkey be racist? And if so then why was endlessly comparing Bush to simians not racist?
why was endlessly comparing Bush to simians not racist
why was endlessly comparing Bush to simians not racist
why was endlessly comparing Bush to simians not racist
why was endlessly comparing Bush to simians not racist
why was endlessly comparing Bush to simians not racist

Different rules for different races. That's racism. And it now overwhelmingly comes from the left.

It is ironical and tragic that the artistic establishment is solidly leftist because the left and artistic freedom are like oil and water -the much vaunted 'pushing of boundaries', the much tom-tommed 'edginess' simply disappear when a favorite leftist project is critiqued. Thus you have thousands of images of Bush as chimp -but one image which is only indirectly suggestive(if even that) of Obama as a simian is intolerable. The cutting edge artistic expression only cuts one way. When it threatens to cut the other way, then the defense of artistic freedom doesn't seem so important anymore.

The cartoonists know they are now walking on a minefield while trying to show Obama -a minefield they fully connived in creating. For years they had full freedom to slander Bush -and they did it with gusto. Despite all the talk of 'police state', no midnight knock ever came for any artist. Yet one innocent cartoon in the age of Obama and the knives are out.

Cartoonists treading lightly when drawing Obama
---------------------------------------

Editorial cartoonists are bending over backwards a lot these days, as they try to satirize the nation's first black president. And when they don't, the result is the kind of outcry that erupted this week after a New York Post cartoon featured a bloody chimpanzee — intentionally or unintentionally evoking racist images of the past.
----------------------------------------
Scott Stantis, editorial cartoonist for The Birmingham (Ala.) News, said he received several complaints this week that his Obama drawings look "simian." As a conservative in a city that's 77 percent black, Stantis has learned to consider the feelings of his audience.

"Being the typical American editorial cartoonist — doughy, white, middle-aged — I'm more than willing to accept that I don't know what may or may not be offensive," he said. "But editorial cartoons are supposed to be offensive, and provocative. We're entering new waters here. What can you use or not use?"

"All my characters look simian," he said. "I don't make Obama look nearly as simian as our former Gov. Fob James, who I DID draw as a monkey, on more than one occasion. And he's a white guy ... I'm sorry, but when it comes to African-Americans, you just don't draw monkeys."

Ted Rall, president of the American Association of Editorial Cartoonists, said that Obama's race has affected how his colleagues do their jobs: "Without a doubt, people are stepping more gingerly. People are tiptoeing their way through this."

-----------------------------------------------
Perhaps race relations would improve, Lester said, if black people lightened up a bit: "They're not too good (at being) made fun of. We can all take a joke."

No, the race industry hustlers can't.

(As they say, read the whole thing.)

Hey, artists, show some courage -do unto Obama what you did to Bush:

Bush obscene art

Update -look who is leading the 'Anti-racism' protest-
the infamous race baiter Al Sharpton. If he were a Republican he would have been run out of politics by a hyper-hysterical media mob eons ago. Just a sampler-
1991: A Hasidic Jewish driver in Brooklyn's Crown Heights section accidentally kills Gavin Cato, a 7-year-old black child, and antisemitic riots erupt. Sharpton races to pour gasoline on the fire. At Gavin's funeral he rails against the "diamond merchants" -- code for Jews -- with "the blood of innocent babies" on their hands. He mobilizes hundreds of demonstrators to march through the Jewish neighborhood, chanting, "No justice, no peace." A rabbinical student, Yankel Rosenbaum, is surrounded by a mob shouting "Kill the Jews!" and stabbed to death.
Oh yes, needless to say Sharpton is from Obama's party.

Update 2- John Hinderaker-
Democrats will no doubt continue to use Obama's race to try to silence criticism, but they can rest assured that conservatives will never unleash the kind of mindless hate against Obama (or anyone else) that we have all witnessed from the Left over the past six years.

Obama screws America

This cartoon was to be published on the day of O-bama's election victory. But now it seems(with the addition of character revealing speech bubble) even more appropriate -the screwing has begun in a massive way with O and his team of monkeys looting taxpayers on a never before scale:the $787 billion stimulus generational theft is only a beginning. What else did one expect from an acolyte of the radical marxist Saul Alinsky(bet your morning newspaper failed to mention that association).

Obama gets ready to screw America
Egged on by a sycophantic media and a salivating
world opinion, Obama gets ready to screw America

Related -Arnold Kling says-
I'm tired of watching Paulson, Geithner, Bernanke, and now the Obama Administration picking through my wallet and giving my money to people who I don't want to see get it. President Reagan expressed a vision for the fall of the Soviet Union when he said, "Mr. Brezhnev Gorbachev, tear down that wall." My vision for the fall of the technocratic dictatorship might be expressed as, "Mr. Obama, give back my wallet."

I hate to break it to you Mr. Kling, but when a leftist picks your wallet it's for good(and not "for the good", as he likes to claim).
